Certified pre-owned vehicles are used vehicles that are sold through special programs that are known as certified pre-owned programs. While they are still used vehicles, certified pre-owned vehicles typically are some of the best-conditioned vehicles on the automotive market, as they need to meet rigorous requirements to be considered for certified pre-owned programs. There are several reasons why you may want to choose a certified pre-owned vehicle as your next vehicle.

Multi-Point Inspection

Certified pre-owned vehicles need to go through an in-depth inspection process to be considered for certified pre-owned programs. Known as a multi-point inspection, the inspection that is performed on a certified pre-owned vehicle is carried out by multiple skilled technicians at a dealership. During the multi-point inspection, a technician checks nearly every system and component of a vehicle. The list of areas that a multi-point inspection needs to cover can have as many as 200 items, ensuring that customers are receiving quality vehicles. The history of the vehicle is also evaluated before it is classified as a certified pre-owned vehicle. Vehicles that have been involved in accidents or have accidents on their vehicle history reports are usually not considered as certified pre-owned vehicles.

Extended Warranties

There are a variety of warranties that are offered for certified pre-owned vehicles. Most certified pre-owned vehicles are covered with manufacturer-backed warranties that will allow you to have the vehicle serviced by any of the manufacturer's service centers. However, some certified pre-owned vehicles are only covered by dealership warranties, meaning that you will only be able to have the vehicle serviced under warranty at the service center of that specific dealership. Some certified pre-owned vehicles are only sold with warranties for specific components on the vehicles, such as powertrain warranties. Make sure to ask for more information about the warranty that your certified pre-owned vehicle may include so that you understand the services that you can expect.

Return Policies

As opposed to new vehicles and used vehicles, some dealerships offer return policies for their certified pre-owned vehicles, allowing customers to return their vehicles if they are unsatisfied. These policies, however, specify the amount of time that a customer can own the vehicle for and the number of miles that the driver can travel with the vehicle. Additionally, the policies typically allow customers to exchange their vehicles for other vehicles rather than outright return the vehicles that they have purchased. Return policies are not offered with every certified pre-owned vehicle, so ask for more information if you are interested in a return policy for your next certified pre-owned vehicle.
